After the Smoke is Clear

Wow.

We keep saying that, cause it's been a great launch and people keep telling us there is nothing left to buy. A size 36 here, a hoodie over there. But for a lot of stuff we are clear out. Guess that's a good problem to have and we are working on it no worries.

We still have some Dry Cottons, so snatch them while they last. Same with the last couple Wools. There is no future production for either till the fall at the earliest so this is the one window of opportunity. There are some 4Seasons left in our NYC retailers so get in touch there. Or hold tight. We have some experimentals due in a few weeks, but we are trying to speed those up. They are damn nice and similar to the 4Seasons, well worth the wait.

Got some surprises in the works too, and of course new production coming in the Spring. Until then keep checking back or better yet go out and ride your bike.

And yeah, thank you!

An Outlier Dawn

OG-4Seasons-Anii.jpg

I woke up this morning with a sense of wonderment, a sense of true excitement. A feeling that I was just a little freer than I was yesterday, but also a realization that there was a lot of hard work on the road ahead.

Today was different no doubt, but I feel that way every morning as I cross the bridge across the East River on the way to work. A sense of wonderment, a sense of excitement, a realization that I'm just a little bit freer and of course a feeling that there is a whole lot of hard work on the road ahead.

Today is different though because today I woke up with a new president. It's a historical event, the first black man elected to the highest office of the United States of America, less than a generation removed from segregation. At least for a day we have been freed from the burderns of the past eight years and the streets are filled with hope.

Today is different too, because today is the day we formally launch Outlier. Like the Obama presidency it's been two long years in the making and like Obama we can finally say "we made it."

Of course what we made is a bit more modest than Obama's historical achievement. What we finally made, and what we hope to make for a long time coming is a simple pair of pants. Two years ago I gave up being frustrated about destroying a pair of pants every month or two and I gave up those annoying days were I couldn't ride my bike to a client meeting because I didn't have the right clothes for the journey. I gave up and decided if the solution to this basic problem didn't exist, I would create it.

It's been quite a trip, I started not knowing a thing about the clothing industry. Now two long years later we are a small company, making high quality garments in New York City, and the hard work has just begun.

In statistics an outlier is a result that lies outside the norm, and we certainly are trying to create garments far better than those you normally encounter. Historically however, an outlier was also the term for someone who lived in the outlying areas, someone who lived somewhere besides where they worked. An outlier was the original commuter.

Outlier was founded largely on the belief that the bicycle is the best way to navigate a 21st century city. We love our bikes not because we race them, ride trails or perform tricks with them, although sometimes we do all of that. But we love our bikes mainly because they are our transportation, our freedom, our way of moving through the spaces we call our home.

What we aim to do is make clothing for a world where bikes are the best mode of transit through our public spaces. Clothes that work as well in board rooms as they do on bicycles. Clothes you can buy based on their classic styling and construction, and appreciate their performance with a cool discretion. We are starting with pants, but if things go well, expect plenty more from us here at Outlier.

It's a historical day for America and with any luck we'll have a bit of a history ahead of us. So thanks for visiting, enjoy the site and go ahead and check out the product we're making. It may just be exactly what you need.

October to November

So yeah, we did promise pants for October. Maybe we can even slip in on a technicality, we got the first shipment in yesterday evening, with maybe six hours of the month left to spare. You know the story, tweeking the last details, putting out fires and the inevitable small disasters at the factory. The pants are coming in, and the pre-orders are going out. So hang tight, this stuff is real and more info is coming in the next few days.

If you sent us an email about pre-ordering you should have gotten an email with info on how to finalize that. If it missed you somehow, just write us again and we'll hook you up. Might even let a few last second "pre-orders" slip in if you write politely... And big thanks for your patience. We trust we'll be delivering the quality to make it worth the wait.
