We are always happy to talk about our prices. Yes of course they are expensive when compared to pants made using cheap fabrics and cheap, unregulated overseas labor. We make pants using high quality technical fabrics, fabrics that through our testing we believe to the absolutely best ones available. We have these pants constructed locally right in the heart of New York City's Garment District. All that adds up to a pant that costs considerably more than your cheap fabric-cheap labor-chain store sort of pant.
Truth be told we actually sell our pants at well below the standard market rate give the fabrics and production we use. The NYT had an interesting article that breaks down some of those costs, you can check it out here: http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/29/fashion/29ROW.html Rather than selling to retailer who resell our products we sell directly to our customers, allowing us to keep the price point down. If we were wholesaling them they'd be $300-400 in the shops!
For what it's worth we offer unconditional 6 month returns, we even pay shipping both ways on domestic returns. Despite that policy our return rates are well below industry standards. We believe in our product, and it seems other people do too. Our products aren't for everyone of course, if you are mainly concerned with getting the cheapest item regardless of the quality you'll be much better off shopping elsewhere. Similarly if things like durability, water resistance, breathability, freedom of movement and quality local production aren't of interest to you, then we aren't really the place you should be looking to for pants. But if that sort of thing interests you, well that's what we make and you get what you pay for, risk free. Feel free to buy a pair and try them for yourself, that's definitely the best way to answer the question!
